BA: Hand baggage limit on way out
02 November 2007
Flag-carrying airline British Airways expects restrictions on the number of bags passengers are allowed to take on planes to be lifted soon.
Aircraft security concerns led to a limit of one piece of carry-on luggage per passenger, but such restrictions will not be deemed necessary for much longer, according to BA chief executive Willie Walsh.
Mr Walsh made his comments as the airline released its results for the April-September 2007 period, revealing operating profit of £556m, compared to £442m in the corresponding period in 2006.
'Good news for our customers will be the removal of restrictions on hand-baggage which we expect soon,' he said. 'This will go a long way to relieving the hassle factor of the one bag limit.
'At the same time we continue to staff up to record levels in the terminals and have improved our direct baggage performance in recent weeks.'
Mr Walsh also looked forward to the opening of Terminal Five at Heathrow in 145 days' time.
The first major public trials of the facility take place this weekend and the BA chief executive said these assessments will ensure that the terminal is a 'national success story Britain can be proud of'.
