Asian destinations 'hot in 2008'
05 November 2007

The latest predictions from guidebook publisher Lonely Planet suggest that a number of Asian destinations will be among the leaders of the world tourism industry in 2008.

One region that is expected to be popular next year is north-west Vietnam, an area that is known for its dramatic mountain landscapes, which makes it popular with travellers looking for an adventure holiday.

There are many parts of Vietnam that remain undiscovered by the mainstream travel industry, unlike areas of Malaysia, which are rising to prominence following a number of marketing campaigns.

Peninsular Malaysia now enjoys improved facilities and infrastructure and visitor numbers are expected to continue rising in 2008, Travelmole reports.

Another destination set to undergo a rise in exposure next year is Chengdu in China, according to the Lonely Planet guide.

This region is known for its history and culture but is also going through a period of economic development, making it an ideal location to experience the old and new faces of China.

Other areas tipped for growth in the Lonely Planet guide for 2008 include Matsuyama, Japan and Mumbai, India.
