New airport opens in Cape Verde
06 November 2007

Prime minister Jose Maria Neves unveiled the new hub and announced plans to open a fourth international airport on Sao Vicente next year, Macauhub reports.

Prior to the construction of the Boavista base Cape Verde travellers had the option to fly to the islands of Santiago, the largest in the archipelago, or Sal.

Mr Neves described the opening of the new airport as 'the realisation of a dream for the people of Boavista and for all Cape Verdeans'.

Further investment in the infrastructure of Boavista is expected over the coming years, with plans in place for a road covering the whole island and a new 2,000-room hotel.

The Cape Verde archipelago is located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the west coast of Africa.

All nine of the main islands that make up the group are volcanic but only one, Fogo, is home to an active volcano.
