Bmi expands Middle East network
06 November 2007
British airline bmi has announced that it will be expanding its presence in the Middle East early next year with new flights from London Heathrow to Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
The carrier will operate three weekly flights to the destination, which will build on its existing services to the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh and the city of Jeddah.
Nigel Turner, chief executive of bmi, announced the new route at a press event in Egypt to mark the beginning of daily direct services from Heathrow to Cairo.
Over the past week the airline has introduced 17 new routes in the largest ever expansion of its network, leading Mr Turner to describe the current time as 'one of the most exciting periods in bmi's 70-year history'.
Further developments will support the carrier's transition into a 'truly global airline', Mr Turner said.
He added: 'Over the past two years we have established a highly successful presence in the Saudi market and are very pleased to extend services to include Dammam, strengthening our position in the region.'
