Emirates celebrates record half-year
08 November 2007
Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced record half-year performance in the six months to 30 September, with net profit of 2.36bn dirhams (£305.6m).
This is double the earnings of 1.18bn dirhams that the carrier managed in the corresponding period of 2006.
Since April this year Emirates has launched passenger services to five new destinations - Venice, Newcastle, Sao Paulo, Toronto and Ahmedabad.
These launches brought the carrier's global route network to 97 cities on six continents and a total of 10.3m passengers flew to these destinations between April and September this year.
Chairman and chief executive Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum said: 'Emirates has delivered another excellent performance which reflects healthy demand for our products and services.
'We have expanded our route network with new large capacity, fuel-efficient aircraft and have continued to invest in a high quality product for our customers. These investments, matched with robust global demand for air travel, are paying off.'
On 3 December Emirates will launch a new flight from its base in Dubai to Houston, Texas.
