American arrival 'significant moment' for Stansted
08 November 2007

A spokesperson for airports operator BAA has commented on the recent arrival of American Airlines (AA) at Stansted airport, describing it as a significant moment in the hub's recent history.

The US carrier, which describes itself as the largest airline in the world, recently launched direct daily services from the London base to its hub at New York JFK.

This is set to double to a twice-daily offering when summer schedules begin to come into operation in April 2008.

A spokesperson for BAA Stansted airport said that this boost in access to the US was a 'particular cause for celebration'.

'It is a significant moment for the airport, with this two-class service complementing perfectly the business class only services operated by MaxJet and Eos, who both serve JFK direct from Stansted,' he commented.

'With the introduction of American Airlines both business and leisure passengers will have direct access to the airline's expansive route network from its JFK hub.'

AA offers direct connections to nearly 200 destinations across the Americas and Caribbean through its base in New York.
