Travellers 'losing 400 laptops a year'
09 November 2007

Forgetful business travellers are leaving thousands of pounds worth of equipment in UK airports each month and potentially putting their firm's security at risk, it has been reported.

A new survey reveals that Brits mislay around 8,500 mobile gadgets each year including phones, computers and BlackBerrys.

Many devices are simply left behind by mistake although passengers are also at risk of being targeted by opportunistic thieves.

The survey, compiled by security firm SafeNet, found that Londoners were the worst offenders when it comes to losing their mobile gadgets with 400 laptops and 2,500 other devices going missing every 12 months.

Gary Clark of SafeNet warned business executives to keep an eye on their belongings or face losing vital data while travelling.

"Companies are investing large sums of money in protecting network data, only for employees to run the risk of losing it by carelessly misplacing laptops and mobile devices," he commented.
