New technology to boost Heathrow parking
12 November 2007
Holidaymakers travelling from Heathrow airport's new Terminal Five next year are set to benefit from an improved parking arrangement with the introduction of new technology.
Drivers arriving at the hub's short-term multi-storey car park will be given a ticket bearing their numberplate to keep until they return.
After their travels car owners will then have their ticket scanned and be directed to the exact location of their vehicle.
The technology, developed by Siemens, is also expected to offer environmental benefits as drivers will be directed to the nearest available parking space when they arrive, eliminating the need for long searches around the car park.
Hugh Fenn, spokesman for airports operator BAA, said: 'Talking to our customers, the things they have found really important are the speed of finding a space and locating their car when they get back.
'Understandably they want to do that quickly. This technology is able to ensure people do that because it knows where their numberplate is parked.'
