19 November 2007
Visitors to Britain who have an interest in the strange and possibly supernatural will be able to use a new guide that will take them to various points around the country that have reportedly been frequented by fairies.
On the Trail of Britain's Fairy Folk, issued by tourism agency VisitBritain, will take visitors on a tour of destinations rich in myth and folklore.
Among the stories that tourists will learn about is the 17th century legend about a minister who was abducted by fairies in Scotland, the Metro reports.
One of Britain's best-known fairy tales is that of Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths, who in 1917 faked pictures of themselves playing with the supernatural creatures in Cottingley, Bradford.
Visitors using the guide will be taken to the site of this famous hoax and also to Nikkeson's Pool in the Scottish Highlands, where legend tells of a handsome male fairy who seduced local girls into the water, where they met an untimely end.
