Queen enjoys trip to Malta
20 November 2007

Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have made a return trip to the Mediterranean island of Malta to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip lived on Malta on and off for two years at the beginning of their marriage, when the Queen was still a princess.

She visited the island a number of times as the prince was stationed there with the Royal Navy.

Malta is an island nation comprising seven isles lying south of Sicily, east of Tunisia and north of Libya.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh's trip to the country will not be the end of their travels, as they will continue to Uganda for a state visit, which will be followed by the Commonwealth heads of government meeting.

A service was held at Westminster Abbey this week to mark the couple's anniversary.

Queen Elizabeth II is the first British monarch to celebrate 60 years of marriage.
