Online access 'makes passport application easier'
21 November 2007
The process of renewing a passport has been made easier for travellers by the potential to carry out the task online, it has been claimed.
A spokesperson for the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) said that an increasing number of holidaymakers are using the internet to ensure their passport is valid.
'An increasing number of customers are applying through the online route,' the representative explained. 'The vast majority of customers do so because of the convenience and ease of using the system.'
Renewing passports online can be a quicker process than sending documents through the post, as any problems with the application can be identified immediately.
'[Online application] offers a basic check of the form, supporting documents, photographs and fee, so it reduces the likelihood of the Identity and Passport Service needing to contact the customer,' the IPS spokesperson said.
'So most applications are processed within two weeks of receiving them.'
