Alberta 'put in the spotlight by Jesse James'
26 November 2007
Alberta in Canada will enjoy a period in the spotlight with the release of Brad Pitt's latest movie - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
The use of the Canadian province as the dramatic backdrop for the film will lead to a rise in interest from tourists, according to Travel Alberta.
Pitt's new film will be seen by millions of people across the globe, having already impressed audiences at the Times BFI London Film Festival and brought the actor an award at the Venice Film Festival.
One of the most important locations in the movie was Fort Edmonton Park, Canada's largest living history park, which provided a steam locomotive and a two-mile section of track that appears in the film.
Also turning up in the picture is the historic Fairmont Palliser hotel, which is one of the film's most opulent and ornate settings.
Many film fans will have seen the prairies, lakes and Rocky Mountain landscapes of Alberta before, as it was the location used for the 2006 film Brokeback Mountain.
Popular films often lead to a boom in tourism for the location in which they were filmed - the release of the Lord of the Rings movies led to a substantial rise in visitor numbers for New Zealand.
