Sri Lanka ready for influx of cricket fans
29 November 2007
The Sri Lanka tourism board has announced that it is prepared for the impending influx of English cricket fans for the first match in the upcoming test series.
Some 7,000 cricket supporters are expected to arrive on the island to watch the first match between England and Sri Lanka in the city of Kandy on 1 December.
Sri Lanka Tourism said that it is planning a number of green initiatives to minimise the impact that the tour will have on the environment.
Working together with the Rotary Movement of Sri Lanka and senior representatives from the two cricket teams, the tourism group is planning to plant a number of trees and pursue other initiatives to try to offset the impact of the tour.
Sri Lanka lies in the Indian Ocean, off the south-eastern shores of India.
Its capital city is Colombo, where visitors will find theme parks, shops, clubs and pubs. The island also boasts natural sights including waterfalls, rivers, jungles and beaches and is home to elephants, leopards, sloth bears and other wildlife.
