Sydney airport terminal sets passenger record
06 December 2007
The Sydney Airport Corporation has announced that the Australian hub's T2 terminal handled more than 1m passengers in a month for the first time in October.
T2 is the busiest of the three terminals at Sydney airport and is regularly used by travellers on connecting flights within Australia.
It is the domestic facility used by carriers including Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Qantas Link.
Russell Balding, chief executive of the Sydney Airport Corporation, said the October record was encouraging for the Australian tourism industry in the approach to Christmas.
He added: 'Earlier this year we completed a $20m [£8.6m] upgrade at T2 which provided more facilities and greater choice of retail outlets for passengers.
'We have almost finished re-tiling the arrivals baggage reclaim area to improve the appearance and provide a lighter, modern feel.'
Sydney was named the best airport in the Australia/Pacific region at this year's Skytrax world airport awards.
