Edinburgh reaches 9m milestone
13 December 2007

Edinburgh airport has announced that it handled more than 9m passengers in the 12 months to November, making it the busiest ever year-long period for the gateway.

The passenger traffic through the airport over the past year represented a 4.8% increase on the previous 12-month period.

More than 690,000 people used Edinburgh in the month of November alone and international traffic increased by 31%.

An expanding route network has helped to drive the growth that has occurred at the Scottish capital's airport, with the recent additions of services to Sharm El Sheikh, Madeira and Las Palmas boosting business.

The past 12 months has been 'a year of milestones', according to Edinburgh's managing director David Johnston.

'We have reached 100 destinations, had 29 new services and are now dealing with 9m passengers, making us the busiest Scottish airport,' he said.

'We have worked hard to widen our route network, opening up new and exciting destinations to our passengers, and expect further new route announcements next year.'
