Oman to boost tourism with new airports
02 January 2008

Oman is planning to boost its tourism industry by building six new airports, according to reports.

Finance minister Ahmad Bin Abdul Nabi Makki revealed plans for the new regional hubs in Oman's 2008 budget, Gulf News reports.

He confirmed that development work is already underway on the airports, which will be based in Sohar, Al Duqm, Ras Al Had, Adam, Haima and Shaleem.

International travellers visiting Oman will also enjoy new facilities in the near future as a result of expansion at Muscat and Salalah international airports.

'The ministry of transport and communication and the ministerial committee commissioned for improving the two airports are now reviewing the designs and the detailed maps,' the government minister explained.

Darwish Bin Esmail Al Balushi, secretary general of the Oman ministry of finance, said airports were being built in the country's smaller towns in order to support the development of tourism in these locations.
