Bag limit lifted at Heathrow
07 January 2008
British Airways has welcomed the fact that its customers flying from Heathrow will now be able to take two pieces of hand luggage on board their flights.
The development has been enabled following the government's decision that the universal one-bag rule was no longer necessary.
BA customers flying from Gatwick, however, will still be limited to one bag per flight.
Robert Boyle commercial director of the airline, said the removal of the restriction was 'great news' for Heathrow passengers and claimed that the company had been lobbying for the change for the past year.
He added: '[The one-bag rule] was a serious inconvenience for passengers and didn't make sense because the UK was the only country to impose the restrictions.
'Now we want to see the restrictions lifted at Gatwick in line with other major UK airports as quickly as possible.'
Mr Boyle said BA was working closely with airport operator BAA and the government to facilitate the removal of the restriction at Gatwick as soon as possible.
