Woman takes freezing dip to promote tourism
11 January 2008

Restaurant manager Michelle Blignault took a bath in temperatures that dropped as low as minus five degrees C to promote tourism in the Lake District.

Cumbria Tourism was hoping to set a new world record for the world's highest luxury bath, with Ms Blignault having to climb 600 metres up Fleetwith Pike mountain for the photoshoot.

The resulting shot shows the local businesswoman relaxing in a bath with a glass of champagne and a mountainous landscape in the background.

Cumbria Tourism designed the picture to express the combination of luxury and outdoor activities that visitors to the region can enjoy.

Ms Blignault told the Times & Star newspaper: 'I have had warmer baths but it was great fun and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

'If this photo makes people realise that as well as the outdoors you can have a luxury experience in a place like the Lake District then great.'

Sheona Southern, marketing director for Cumbria Tourism, said that this year the region is hoping to attract new tourists to boost its current audience of loyal visitors.
