Cyprus airports see record-breaking year
11 January 2008

Larnaca and Paphos airports in Cyprus saw record passenger figures last year, it has been revealed.

The two hubs saw joint passenger traffic of more than 7m in 2007, which is an increase of 3.94% on 2006, according to figures released by operating company Hermes Airports.

In the month of December alone, the two airports handled over 325,000 travellers, 10.9% more than in the same month of 2006.

Larnaca was by far the busiest hub of the two, with 5.2m people passing through in 2007, representing a 7.1% rise on the previous year.

Bob Manning, chief executive officer of Hermes Airports, said: 'We are delighted at this record passenger figure for 2007, which further demonstrates the attractiveness of Cyprus as a business and leisure destination.

'The key growth markets were Greece, Russia, Scandinavia, Austria, Romania, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.'

Mr Manning said there have been a number of developments in the Cyprus travel market this year, including new airlines and improvements in facilities at both Larnaca and Paphos airports.
