Record December figures at Birmingham

Birmingham airport has released figures showing that it experienced its busiest ever December last year.
The hub handled a total of 587,760 passengers in the month, 2.3% more than in December 2006.
This brought the total number of travellers through Birmingham in 2007 to over 9.2m, nearly 1% more than the previous year.
Newly launched services led to substantial growth on a number of scheduled routes from the airport in December, including Barcelona (260%), Faro (173%) and Gothenburg (18%).
Overall, scheduled EU services saw passenger numbers increase by 3.8%, while growth on routes outside Europe reached 8.7%.
Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham airport, said that 2007 had been 'an incredible year'.
He added: 'We've welcomed new airlines and introduced new destinations for our region's leisure and business travellers, and have opened our new extended Terminal 1 departures lounge, significantly increasing facilities for the comfort and experience of our passengers.'
