Record year for Nottingham EMA
16 January 2008
Nottingham East Midlands airport (EMA) has announced that it achieved record passenger figures last year, with more than 5.41m people passing through the Midlands hub.
This was an increase of more than 14% on the figures recorded in 2006.
December alone brought 377,929 travellers through Nottingham, representing a year-on-year increase of over 16% and ensuring that 2007 was comprised of 12 consecutive months of growth.
EMA was boosted by a number of new services last year, including flights to the Scandinavian destinations of Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm and a new long-haul route to Jamaica.
Airport managing director Penny Coates said: 'This record increase in passengers demonstrates the demand in the region for local access to air travel. I'm delighted with the public response to the wide choice of destinations we're now able to offer and to the investment we've made in improving the passenger experience.
'The challenge for us is to build on this fantastic performance and to continue to deliver the services the region deserves.'
