BA to boost South American services
16 January 2008

British Airways has announced that it will boost its network of flights to South America later this year, with daily services to Buenos Aires, Argentina and non-stop connections to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Currently, the carrier offers four flights a week to the Argentine capital, while the Brazilian city is served via a stopover in Sao Paulo.

The change to the connection to Brazil, which will take effect from 26 October, will cut two hours off the flight time to Rio de Janeiro.

Robert Boyle, British Airways' commercial director, said the changes to the winter schedule were in response to growing demand for leisure and business travel to South America.

He added: 'Rio is traditionally a leisure destination but business travel to the city, particularly in the energy sector, is rising.

'Non-stop flights mean more available seats on the route and faster flight times.'

In other changes that BA will implement this year, flights from Gatwick to St Lucia will increase from two to three a week and operate non-stop, while a new service will launch from Heathrow to Hyderabad.
