Dubai to showcase future of tourism
17 January 2008

Dubai will offer a glimpse of the future of its tourism industry as it hosts a development and investment exhibition this month.

Over 50 developers will be involved in the event, showing off new tourism projects worth over 700bn dirhams (£96.7bn).

The exhibitors will include Dubailand, the entertainment complex and theme park that is currently under development, and Al Ain Wildlife Park.

Frederic Theux, president of organisers Reed Exhibitions Middle East, said that global interest in Dubai's tourism market has grown substantially in recent years and will continue to expand in the future.

Khalid Ahmed Bin Sulayem, director general of the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing group, said that tourism contributes 30% of the economy.

He added: 'Dubai's hotels and apartment hotels last year received about 6.5m visitors that contributed $3.5bn [£1.77bn] to the emirate's economy.'
