Lufthansa confirms new route to Norway
21 January 2008

Lufthansa has announced that it will operate a new route from Frankfurt to Bergen, Norway this summer.

The carrier announced that the service will be available year-round, on a twice-daily basis from 30 March.

Bergen will be the third destination in Norway served by Lufthansa from Frankfurt, joining Oslo and Stavanger in the airline's route network.

Dr Karl-Rudolf Rupprecht, Lufthansa's head of management at Frankfurt, said: 'With the new service to Bergen, we are linking one of the most important economic centres and attractive tourist regions in Norway to our largest hub in Frankfurt.'

When the new connection to Bergen is launched, Germany's national carrier will offer a total of 111 weekly flights to Norway.

The town, located on the west coast of the Scandinavian country, is regarded as one of the most picturesque in the region and is expected to thrive as a tourist destination.

Bryggen, the wharf in Bergen, is a designated Unesco world heritage site and attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year.
