Cape Town enjoys 'bumper' festive season
21 January 2008

The City of Cape Town has revealed that the South African location saw 'bumper' tourism levels in the recent festive season.

An accommodation survey conducted by the tourism department revealed positive growth in occupancy rates at Cape Town hotels.

Establishments with ten or more rooms saw their occupancy figures increase by nearly 12% on last year, according to the research.

Another positive result of the survey indicated that there were no serious visitor safety incidents at Cape Town's main tourist attractions.

This was thought to be a result of initiatives such as the 'festive season visitor welcome' project and a safety campaign designed to protect foreign and local visitors.

Simon Grindrod, mayoral committee member for economic development and tourism, said: 'The fact that we had no serious visitor safety incidents is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all roleplayers involved.

'Cape Town remains a world class destination which prides itself on creating wonderful experiences for overseas and local visitors.'
