Aer Arann gives support to regional airports
22 January 2008

Aer Arann has given its support to regional airports across the UK, claiming that they are less congested and more environmentally friendly than larger hubs.

The carrier announced a 'continued allegiance' with regional airports at a time of rising congestion at some London bases.

One of the benefits of regional airports, Aer Arann claimed, is the reduction in unnecessary road and rail journeys, with 6% of traffic at Heathrow originating from the south-west.

Rather than driving or catching a train to London, passengers can fly directly from Cardiff, Southampton or Birmingham, the airline said.

Regional hubs are also expanding their networks, with flights now available to destinations such as Toronto, Vancouver and New York.

Colin Lewis, head of sales and marketing at Aer Arann, said: 'Regional airports provide quality service on your doorstep and there is no reason for travellers to put themselves through the unnecessary stress that is associated with capital city airports.

'Furthermore, regional airports have shorter taxiing distances which reduces fuel burn and carbon footprints.'
