Budapest to celebrate spring
24 January 2008
The city of Budapest will celebrate the first month of a new season in March with the Spring Festival.
Between 14 and 30 March, the capital of Hungary will be bustling with around 200 events, performances and shows.
The festival is designed to cater for all tastes, with Bizet's Carmen and Puccini's La Boheme at the Hungarian State Opera House the highlights for opera lovers.
Classical music fans will also have a number of options to choose from, including shows by the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony and the English Baroque Soloists.
At the other end of the scale, a two-day Fringe Festival on 28 and 29 March will feature up-and-coming talent on the music, theatre and performance art scenes, as well as belly dancers, storytellers and fire jugglers.
There will also be plenty of art exhibitions, featuring contemporary work and sculpture, as well as re-enactments at the Budapest History Museum.
Flights from the UK to Budapest are available with British Airways and Malev.
