Work begins on luxury development in Marrakech
24 January 2008
Work has begun on a new luxury resort near the city of Marrakech, Morocco.
The development is part of Mauritius-based Beachcomber Hotels' expansion into north Africa.
Named the Royal Palm Hotel Golf and Spa Marrakech, the 40m (£29.9m) resort will boast 150 suites and villas, a luxury spa, a sports centre, four restaurants and an 18-hole golf course.
The complex has been located midway between Marrakech and the airport, to offer views of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.
Its design will incorporate colours, textures and design features that evoke the culture of southern Morocco.
Lindsay Walker, Beachcomber's UK country manager, said: 'This is Beachcomber's first new development outside the Indian Ocean and we are delighted to be working closely with the Moroccan government and the Domaine Royal Palm consortium on this eco-aware residential and leisure project.'
The resort has been pencilled in for an official opening at the end of 2009.
