North-east England 'a hit in Australasia'
29 January 2008
North-east England has been proclaimed 'a hit' in the Australasian region following the recent launch of a marketing campaign.
Regional development agency One NorthEast said that two new websites targeted at people in Australia and New Zealand have proved a success, with more than 17,000 visitors in one day.
In total, the sites have attracted 60,000 unique visitors, half of whom have requested further information on north-east England.
The web pages have been supported by a direct mail campaign targeted at potential visitors in Australasia, as well as adverts in newspapers and on television.
Australia and New Zealand were identified as potential markets for the north-east region after Emirates launched a daily flight from Dubai to Newcastle last September.
Marissa Buckingham, international brand manager at One NorthEast, said: 'We are delighted with the success of the campaign which is down to its strength using a range of marketing activity to increase the exposure of north-east England in Australasia.
'With the launch of the Emirates daily route from Newcastle to Dubai it is now even easier to get to the region and attract an increasing number of visitors from Australia and New Zealand.'
