A380 to land in London in March
30 January 2008

Singapore Airlines has confirmed that it will bring the Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger plane, to London in March.

The carrier said that it will receive its third A380 in mid-March and use it to operate the Singapore-London route from 18 March.

This will be the first time that the Airbus superjumbo has been used in commercial service in Europe.

Marvin Tan, Singapore Airlines' general manager for the UK and Ireland, said: 'The arrival of the first commercial A380 flight to London will be a proud moment not only for Singapore Airlines but also for British aviation, with the magnificent wings of the aircraft made in Broughton and Filton and the Singapore Airlines A380 powered by Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines.'

Huang Cheng Eng, the carrier's executive vice-president for marketing, said that the new Airbus will provide a welcome capacity boost on the busy Singapore-London route.

Singapore Airlines is the first carrier to use the A380 and London Heathrow will be the plane's second destination, after it began flying to Sydney in October 2007.
