US Airways has boosted America's domestic flight network with the launch of a new service to Daytona Beach, Florida.

The carrier announced that the beginning of its new connection to the location from Charlotte-Douglas international airport was 'just in time' for the 50th running of the Daytona 500.

Andrew Nocella, senior vice-president of schedule planning and alliances for US Airways, said: 'US Airways customers can now fly to 13 destinations in the Sunshine State and customers from Daytona Beach are able to conveniently connect through Charlotte to 121 non-stop domestic and international destinations.'

Daytona Beach international airport aviation director Dennis McGee added: 'We are pleased to welcome US Airways back to Daytona Beach and look forward to a successful partnership for many years to come.'

US Airways claims to be the fifth largest domestic airline in North America.

Along with its subsidiaries, the carrier operates some 3,800 flights every day, serving more than 230 communities across the world.
