New tourism spots promoted in Texas
08 February 2008

A new marketing campaign is to be launched that officials hope will attract more visitors to the US state of Texas.

The television, print and online advertising initiative will include images of Tex-Mex dining in San Antonio and people mountain biking in Big Bend National Park, the Associated Press reports.

Other locations included in the promotion include the beach on South Padre Island and the Wyler aerial tramway above El Paso.

State tourism officials said that the campaign is set to cost more than $24m (£12.3m) once it has been fully distributed but governor Rick Perry was confident that the investment would be recouped.

'Texas offers visitors from across the state and around the world an unparalleled experience,' he said.

'Once you visit Texas, you may never want to leave.'

Texas, also known as the Lone Star State, is the second largest state in the USA and is home to the major cities of Dallas, Houston and Austin.
