Bmi to boost Heathrow operations
14 February 2008
Bmi has announced that it is to boost its operations from Heathrow airport following the lease of two new aircraft.
The carrier received two Boeing 757s from Astraeus Airlines as it waits for the delivery of Airbus A330 planes that suit its plans for service enhancement.
These planes will be used to improve schedules on bmi's existing destinations of Almaty in Kazakhstan and Freetown in Sierra Leone.
A new route from Heathrow to Tel Aviv in Israel, which has been selling beyond bmi's expectations, will also benefit from an upgrade in capacity shortly after it launches on 13 March.
Nigel Turner, chief executive officer of bmi, said: 'We strongly believe that in order to continue the development of the mid-haul network, now is the time to upgrade capacity and the aircraft range on certain routes that will clearly benefit from non-stop services.
'We also think it is important to make the timing improvements we have identified in order to maximise their convenience and competitiveness as well as extending the range of connections that are available at Heathrow.'
