Edinburgh prepares to spook its visitors
04 March 2008

Visitors to Edinburgh may get more than they bargained for in May as the city hosts its annual festival dedicated to all things ghoulish and ghostly.

Mary King's Ghost Fest, which will run from 9 to 18 May, has an entirely new programme of strange and spooky events this year.

Visitors will be taken to some of the locations in the city most associated with supernatural occurrences and provided with historical information that provides origins for some of the eerie goings-on.

There will be a scientific side to the festival as well, with an experiment to be carried out by a team from the University of Edinburgh's Department of Parapsychology.

Avid followers of TV show Most Haunted will recognise historian Richard Felix and the man himself will be making a special appearance at an exclusive event at the Ghost Fest.

The festival shares part of its name with The Real Mary King's Close, a tourist attraction in Edinburgh located in an area that used to consist of a number of underground roads, which has been linked with stories of ghosts, murders and other unsavoury things over the years.
