Etihad to boost summer schedule
11 March 2008
Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has announced that it is to launch an expanded network of flights this summer.
The airline will begin its new portfolio of services on 30 March, offering 47% more services to its passengers than in 2007.
In total, the Abu Dhabi-based operator will offer 728 flights every week, compared to 494 last year.
The highlights of Etihad's network this year will be new launches to Beijing in China, the city that will host the 2008 Olympic Games, and Calicut in India.
Frequency will also be increased to key locations throughout the Middle East, Europe, the Indian subcontinent, Africa and the Asia Pacific.
James Hogan, Etihad's chief executive, said: 'We're not just improving the quantity of flights but, importantly, also the quality of connections.
'The number of onward transfers which can now be made in less than two hours will increase by 21%, while connections which can be made within two to three hours will increase by a further 13%.'
