AA to shift from Gatwick to Heathrow
14 March 2008

American Airlines (AA) has announced that it is to move three of its London flights from Gatwick to Heathrow in the coming weeks.

The development is part of the US-EU open skies agreement, which will liberalise the airspace over the Atlantic Ocean from 30 March.

Services to move from Gatwick will be two daily services to Dallas Fort Worth in Texas and Raleigh Durham airport in North Carolina.

The change represents the end of American Airlines' operations at Gatwick after 26 years.

Henry Joyner, senior vice-president of planning for the carrier, said: 'We want to strengthen our competitive position within the new open skies regime, so it makes sense to focus our efforts in London at Heathrow.

'These changes do not impact the total number of American flights to and from London. We'll operate up to 18 daily departures to Heathrow this summer from seven US airports.'

The US gateways that AA will serve from Heathrow this summer will be New York JFK, Boston, Dallas Fort Worth, Raleigh Durham, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles.
