Beijing to operate city bus tours until June
20 March 2008

Beijing, the capital of China, is set to boost its exposure and appeal to tourists ahead of the Olympic Games by offering city bus tours.

Buses will travel along tourist routes taking in the city's most important sites and newest landmarks in the shortest time possible, People's Daily Online reports.

Visitors will be able to stay on the tour for the entire route or get off the bus whenever they like to get a closer look at certain locations.

English and Chinese announcements will introduce passengers to scenery and points of interest along the way and interactive activities will be provided while the bus is waiting in traffic.

The tours are part of an initiative by Beijing tourism authorities to boost the status and exposure of the city ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games.

China's capital will host the Olympics between 8 and 24 August, with some sporting events being held at locations including Shanghai, Tianjin, Hong Kong and Qingdao.
