More visitors to New Zealand in February
20 March 2008
New Zealand saw a year-on-year increase in its number of foreign visitors in February, according to new figures.
Statistics New Zealand announced that there were a total of 280,500 arrivals in the country in February, 5% more than the same month of 2007.
This figure may have been distorted somewhat by the fact that there were 29 days in February this year, RTT News reports.
When the first 28 days of the month were compared to the same period of 2008, the increase in visitor numbers stood at 1%.
More people visited New Zealand from Australia and China, but there was a fall in the number of holidaymakers coming from the UK, Korea and Japan.
New Zealand's outbound tourism market saw the number of people leaving the country in February increase by 6% in comparison with January.
Situated in the Pacific Ocean off the south-eastern coast of Australia, New Zealand is one of the world's top destination for adventure travellers, offering activities including hot-air ballooning, caving, rock-climbing, snowboarding, jet-boating and whale-watching.
