Eurostar prepares for record Easter
20 March 2008
Eurostar has announced that it is expecting a record Easter period in its first year of operations from St Pancras International.
The rail operator said that it is anticipating 160,000 travellers over the coming weekend, an increase of 20% on last year.
This substantial increase in demand is thought to be the result of Eurostar's new high-speed line, which will carry passengers to Paris and Brussels at speeds of up to 186mph.
To meet the extra demand, three extra services will be laid on, offering a total of 2,250 extra seats.
Simon Montague, director of communications at Eurostar, said: 'We're really pleased that our fabulous new station, the UK's first 186mph line and journeys of roundly two hours to the centre of Brussels and Paris are attracting record numbers of passengers.
'Since Eurostar moved to St Pancras International, more and more people are realising Eurostar is easier, quicker and greener than flying.'
People all over the UK can access Eurostar's services, as the operator offers through fares from 68 different towns and cities.
