Continental to launch from New York, Houston to Heathrow
27 March 2008

US carrier Continental Airlines is set to launch flights from New York and Houston to London Heathrow on 29 March.

The inauguration is set to be the largest single-day international service expansion in Continental's history.

Until now, the airline had been prevented from providing this connection by a restrictive bilateral air services agreement, but the launch has been made possible by the open skies agreement between the US and the EU.

Larry Kellner, chairman and chief executive of the carrier, said: 'Continental has waited a long time to gain access to Heathrow and this is a great day for us, as well as for all transatlantic travellers.

'We can now provide our customers with what they have requested – the opportunity to fly to both of London's main airports with their preferred airline.'

The operator will provide twice-daily non-stop services to Heathrow from New York and Houston, alongside connections from the same US destinations to London Gatwick.
