Photo project 'to boost Tasmania'
09 April 2008
A photography project is set to boost the worldwide appeal and exposure of the Australian island of Tasmania.
Seventeen world-renowned photographers have arrived on the island for a nine-day project sponsored by Adobe Photoshop.
Felicia Mariani, chief executive of Tourism Tasmania, said the island was chosen from a pool of contenders to be the location for the project owing to its 'stunning scenery, unique quality of light and 'edge of the world' appeal'.
The photographers involved in the assignment will focus primarily on the regions of Bicheno, Hobart and Cradle Mountain.
A handbook featuring the images will be compiled later this year and Tourism Tasmania hopes that the publication will raise awareness of the island as a holiday location.
Photography and travel enthusiasts can follow the progress of the initiative, which will come to an end on 13 April, on digital media company O'Reilly's website.
Tasmania is located off the southern coast of Australia and is separated from the mainland by the Bass Strait.
