BA defers T5 transfer of long-haul services
11 April 2008
British Airways (BA) passengers have been informed that the airline's planned move of its long-haul services from Terminal 4 to Terminal 5 has been deferred until June.
The airline announced that it is delaying the transfer despite Terminal 5 running a normal flight schedule for the past three days.
BA claimed that the decision was intended to ensure that customers are offered a good service and said that it needed time to 'iron out' ongoing issues, including problems with the Terminal 5 baggage system.
Willie Walsh, chief executive of the airline, said: 'Though Terminal 5 is now working well, we need to have confidence that good service can be maintained when the terminal is handling larger numbers of customers.
'It is only sensible to ensure that Terminal 5 is operating consistently at a high standard before the move begins.'
Colin Matthews, chief executive of BAA, said the airport operator 'regrets this postponement' but claimed that it is a 'wise precaution', despite the impact that it may have on other airlines.
