Emirates to open US west coast gateways
11 April 2008
Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced recently that it plans to launch flights to the gateways of San Francisco and Los Angeles on the west coast of America.
The carrier revealed its plans to begin flying to San Francisco this week, a month after its announcement that it would launch services to LA.
Flights between Dubai and LA will commence on 1 September, while the connection between the United Arab Emirates and San Francisco will open on 26 October, bringing Emirates' total number of US destinations to four.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of the airline, said: 'Providing fast, comfortable service to both US coasts and points in between has been an important goal for us.
'There is a strong demand for connections between the San Francisco Bay area and both the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.'
Emirates, which also flies to Houston and New York, will use a Boeing 777-200LR aircraft for the new west coast routes, offering 266 seats in a three-class configuration.
