Double check prices for 'cheap' family breaks
15 April 2008
Holidaymakers looking for a low cost deal should pay attention to the price of airfares, suggest travel industry officials.
Families travelling with young children may find that the low ticket price of some airfares could be cancelled out by other costs, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA).
Sean Tipton, press officer at ABTA, revealed that the majority of budget airlines charge the same price for a child as for an adult.
'From a financial perspective, are budget airlines really good value for families? Any traditional airline or charter airline will do discounted fares for children, no frills carriers do not,' said Mr Tipton.
A survey by the Rough Guide showed that Ryanair was considered to be the least child-friendly airline with just 2% of the vote. Rival easyjet was close behind and polled 6% of the vote.
Mr Tipton also drew attention to charges associated with check-in, baggage that budget airlines charge.
Ryanair currently charge £6 for one bag under 15kg.
