UK airports improve punctuality rates
16 April 2008
The UK's ten major airports improved their on-time performance by 1% at the end of last year, according to the latest figures.
Civil Aviation Authority statistics covering the final quarter of 2007 showed that the proportion of scheduled flights operating on time increased at all monitored airports, with the exception of Heathrow and London City.
The average delay experienced at the surveyed airports decreased from 18 minutes in the last quarter of 2006 to 17 minutes in 2007.
London City airport was the only hub to see an increase in its average hold-up time, from 15 minutes in 2006 to 20 minutes last year.
Among the 75 destinations with the most passengers, an on-time rate of less than 55% was recorded on routes to Lisbon, Dubai, Istanbul, Rome and Los Angeles.
Services into Leeds Bradford performed particularly well in the research, with a punctuality rate of 84% and an average delay of eight minutes.
