Joint Singapore, Bintan trips 'becoming popular'
21 April 2008
Trips that take in both Singapore and the Indonesian island of Bintan are becoming increasingly popular among British travellers, it has been claimed.
Last year, both of these south-east Asian islands achieved record visitor numbers and figures have been consistently rising for the past three years, Travel Daily News reports.
Singapore's diverse culture and the range of experiences that it offers are among the reasons that it is so popular with UK travellers, claimed Divya Panickar of the tourism board.
Ms Panickar added: 'We are also seeing a growing trend in visitors who are choosing to twin their Singapore experience with Bintan, which lies just 55 minutes by catamaran beyond the shores of Singapore and boasts miles of wonderful white sandy beaches, perfect for relaxing and reflecting.'
Asad Shiraz of Bintan Resorts added: 'Together, Singapore and Bintan offer an even more appealing destination choice the glitz and glamour of a major metropolis with tropical island paradise offerings of Bintan.'
According to ETN Asia, corporate investment in Bintan is set to turn it into an Indonesian tourism hub over the coming years, with new developments including a casino, luxury accommodation and a health centre.
