Domestic holidays 'popular this spring'
29 April 2008
Holidays within the UK are set to prove popular among Brits over the month of May and its two bank holidays, according to regional airline Flybe.
The carrier released figures showing that its passenger figures for the coming holiday period are 19.5% higher this year than in 2007.
Flybe's route between Belfast City and Manchester is set to be its most popular for the first May bank holiday, followed by connections between Jersey, Guernsey, Belfast and London Gatwick, and its service from Edinburgh to Southampton.
The airline said Edinburgh and Southampton, as well as Birmingham, are set to be popular owing to the variety of attractions and culture they offer, while many people boarding flights to Gatwick will be accessing onward connections at the London airport.
Mike Rutter, Flybe's chief commercial officer, said: 'Our passengers are well aware of the benefits to be had from our low fares offered to a range of attractive destinations, all very accessible from convenient regional airports close to home.'
Mr Rutter also said that people would be using air travel to embark on their spring trips to avoid 'frustrating, time-consuming and environmentally damaging motorway queues'.
