01 May 2008
Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced that it is 'gearing up' to launch a new service to Kozhikode.
The carrier will launch a six-flights-a-week connection between Dubai and the port city, which is in the southern Indian state of Kerala, on 1 July.
Kozhikode will be Emirates' third gateway in Kerala, after Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, and its tenth destination in India.
Salem Obaidalla, Emirates' senior vice-president of commercial operations in west Asia, said: 'We are gearing up for the launch of our services to Kozhikode in the summer of this year.
'In the past few months we have stepped up our recruitment efforts, and will soon start training our newly-appointed staff to serve the city's travellers.'
The new connection will be operated using a Boeing 777-200 and an Airbus A330-200 in two-class configurations, offering over 2,000 seats per week.
Emirates is one of the Middle East's major airlines, offering 163 weekly flights to 12 gateways from its base in Dubai.
