Emirates to fly to Durban
06 May 2008
Emirates has announced that it is to begin flights to Durban, which will be the carrier's third destination in South Africa following the recent launch of operations in Cape Town and the opening of a connection to Johannesburg in 2007.
The daily service will begin carrying passengers between Dubai and Durban on 1 December.
Durban will be Emirates' 16th passenger destination in Africa and boost the airline's weekly frequency to the continent to 93 flights.
Tim Clark, president of Emirates, offered the carrier's thanks to the South African government for allowing the commencement of flights to Durban.
He added: 'I am confident the new service will foster greater business, tourism and cultural exchange and prove an asset in the growth plans of Durban.
'Our flights will provide travellers from key cities in Europe, the Indian subcontinent and Middle East a direct access to Durban and will strengthen inbound tourist arrivals.'
The connection is also set to provide access to more than 90 global destinations for people flying from Durban, who can now avoid travelling through Johannesburg.
