Dubai hotels 'to welcome 10m by 2010'

The tourism industry of Dubai is set to expand to the point that it welcomes 10m hotel visitors by 2010, according to reports.
Projections released by the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) department indicated that hotel visitor numbers will climb to 10m from the 7m recorded last year.
There were 452 hotels and hotel apartment establishments in Dubai in 2007 and this is expected to climb to 488 by 2010.
The total number of rooms is set to rise from 51,168 units last year to 64,179 in two years' time.
Speaking at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, DTCM director general Khalid Ahmed bin Sulayem said his department will continue to exploit the emirate's tourism potential through its initiatives and policies.
He added: 'We are on track to move Dubai up the ladder on the global tourism map and continue to provide direction to consolidate the emirate's position as the tourism hub not just of the region but of the world.'
